It really depends...I left as staff 2 to join a tech firm. The work life balance is extremely good. We never work more than 40 hours a week. I also interviewed with another tech company and they work a lot like until 8 or 9pm. They also offered 10k less in salary lol but I guess there was learning potential. All I can say is that pay and WLB all depends on the firm. Good luck!
I would just say don't take the first thing that comes along, take the time to really find a company and position that you feel good about. In general you will receive a pay bump (because many people who leave aren't going to settle for a pay cut unless they are just trying to take the first thing that gets them out of public) and the balance will be better, though you want to make sure the company is a good fit for you.
