Nippon
Handies Douzo
I like hando better
Aka sushi house
Blue in MKT is the jam. They have a mushroom roll (shiitake to me) that is beyond delicious. I am not vegan but find myself craving that roll at least once a week.
I’ll proselytize for you: It’s shiitake mushrooms cooked in coconut milk and sweet potato tempura in rice, seaweed, and somewhere in there, there’s truffle oil. It’s sooooooooooo delicious.
As much as I love Blue sushi (like literally my fave sushi in HTX) it is not HEB prices 😫 I do recommend it though! San Marcos is my favorite roll.
Miyako on Washington is sooo good for the price. Highly recommend.
Azuma. Closer to rice village though
Handos
Handos is the choice if you want decent quality for a good price
Miyabi
Miyako is the best on Washington
Handies is very good, but a bit pricier than HEB. I go to Kura, $3.25/2 nigiri, and the quality is better than HEB if not quite Handies. Pokeworks is another option.
Sushi is like the one thing where I prefer Kroger to HEB, fwiw. Maybe it’s just the one on West Gray.
Nippon or Oishi
+1 for Oishi on Richmond! It gets very crowded during the evening, and the wait can be long, but lunch menu and happy hour deals made this my go-to when I was in college and grad school (and even now, because the quality of their fish is quite good).
One of the best-value sushi joints and I've eaten sushi all over the world.
