Texas-4 years experience in immigration law + 4 and counting years in PI Pltf, I make $38/h. But I do basically everything you can imagine, sometimes atty work. Not worth it sometimes.
I am a Certified Paralegal and I made 90K last year. It definitely depends on your experience and education. Do everything you can to show how you" stand out" because the title Paralegal can be used by anyone, so it means very little
The short answer is yes to both. Some areas of law pay more because they are more specialized, like eDiscovery and IP. Personal Injury, Family Law and Insurance Defense are more common, so education and experience make you stand out. Becoming certified was not an easy accomplishment, but it has paid out many times over for me.
$68.5 hr in a PI practice working remote.
What state? That’s awesome!

Unfortunately pay is low to start. 11 years ago I started at $34k with OT pay. My biggest bump (that I asked for due to work load and scope of work) was around year 8 from $58k to $92k in one year from the same firm. I’m currently in-house and at $145k base, no overtime with a 20%+ bonus each year.

Private equity based and internally facing I’m a paralegal but for optics my title is Vice President.
We are a mid-sized law firm in the Midwest our paralegals are closer to $70,000. If you are good at what you do they should pay you more or you should look for a better opportunity.
What state specifically? $70,000 in Illinois is different than $70,000 in Ohio and Nebraska. And what practice are you in?
I’m at $43.27/hour with about 3 yrs experience as a paralegal and about 4 yrs in the legal field overall. I think location matters too. I’m in Atl, Ga.
What type of firm and law?
This really depends on where you live, the area of law and how much experience you have. Difficult to compare
Hmm okay. I’m located in Salt Lake City. Maybe I should look at other firms.
I am in Boise, Idaho, medium sized firm, have been employed with them for 7 years and a paralegal with them for 4 and I am salaried at $65k
$120000 base with no OT or bonus. Been a litigation paralegal since 2014.
Wow. What state and type of law?
125,000 CA. Mid size firm. No OT not including bonus. Labor Employment.
Just interviewed at another law firm and their starting salary is 63k! I’ll be able to negotiate salary of course. So hopefully I can get it! Looks like I needed to just shift to a new firm.
36.5 an hour part time. 8 years legal experience. Under a year paralegal experience. I expect a jump next year based on my review and progress.
What area of law of you work in?
I’m in Real Estate law
$87,000 in Florida in L&E
Following, in a similar position as OP, everyone’s feedback so far has been eye opening and helpful.
$45/hr in CA for a PI firm w/37 yrs of experience. I do know from intake to trial. (Pre-lit & full lit). Certified Paralegal. I do believe I'm underpaid.
141k not including OT or bonus. Antitrust law.
