I'm currently seeking a paralegal position where I can make a real difference in people's lives. While I appreciate the value of all legal work, I'm particularly drawn to cases that directly assist those in need, such as low-income individuals or those facing incarceration. Are there any paralegals out there who feel a strong sense of purpose in their work? I'd love to hear about your experience.

I’m in Insurance Defense and feel this way even though I’m repping Corporate clients for the most part. Everyone hates on insurance defense but I’d rather save my client money or present a jury with the actual truth than let Plaintiff lawyers swindle excess money from my client for theirs when they aren’t telling the whole truth. I’m very involved in my cases and assist my attorneys with strategy - I used to be Plaintiff side so I know usually what move they are going to make next (as do my attorneys) but they appreciate my insight on cases.

Maybe you’re not money driven but these roles tend to be low paying. I think you can volunteer for such roles. Be careful if wanting to fix people or their problems. You’re only going to be able to do so much and it’s exhausting when they don’t listen to advice.

I have a corporate background and am very fulfilled. No day is the same as the next and I’ve met some awesome clients and have helped give back millions via family foundation work.

Immigration. I make good money. It’s a niche part of law but rewarding.

Maybe look into working with your local legal aid. Pay likely would suck though.

Yeah, don't work there then.

Nah.

I work at a firm that specializes in representing survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I absolutely love what I do and although it’s tough work at times, it’s also very “human” and very rewarding. My clients trust me with their deepest darkest secrets and we really have to work to built a relationship with them, but that also lets us be very passionate and invested in their cases. I would suggest maybe some training in mental health and working with people who have experienced trauma would be helpful, but not entirely necessary if you have good mentors who can guide you when you start this type of work

Consider legal temp jobs, by project or filling in. Pick the 3-6 mo. gigs to learn the most

Looking at possibly accepting an offer at Microsoft (nice offer) as a recruiter. It seems a little different, no sourcing due to no time & the slating of one female & black or Hispanic. Anyone here from Microsoft or recently left open to giving me some insight? It really seems like a paper pushing role & not recruiting.

Hi. I’m relatively new to recruiting and my role is primarily in supporting recruiters. I’ve noticed that even when I include a specific request or call to action, that my emails receive a response less than 50% of the time. Is this lack of responsiveness indicative of company culture or more about the culture of recruiting, since they receive so many emails? Thoughts? I’ve not experienced this rate of responsiveness in any organization I’ve worked for. I am beginning to take it personally.

In my department at work, we have always taken turns working on the holidays and been pretty flexible. Well, we’re really understaffed this year and several new employees are young parents. So, I offered to cover Thanksgiving and Christmas to help them out. But now I’m feeling super resentful. Any tips on getting through the next month without shooting daggers at them?

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.
