Honestly, everytime I talk to a Houston native about Galveston, I can see the disgust on their face and they don't try to hide it either. I'm guessing that the locals here don't really care about that place to even want to maintain it.
Also, I recall reading about the waters in Galevston having a high level of fecal matter. Gross.
When I tell my patients I’m leaving Dallas to Houston, they give me the same look
Literally never heard anyone say this about Galvy before and I’m 35 years a Houstonian
I’ve met a few people who love Galveston, but really not many. People don’t “care” because it’s a city beach, not a destination. Add in the fact that it’s Texas and it takes a special place to be willing to spend money on keeping a place clean or even just enforcing any laws to that effect. We’d much rather spend money on stadiums, tax breaks for big business and lawsuits against the liberals.
It's called "Dirty G" for a reason. The actual locals might care a bit more about littering, but the hordes of day-trippers from Houston (and surrounding areas) certainly don't.
I’ve never heard it called dirty-g. Life long Houston area resident.
I’ve lived in Houston for 57 years and haven’t set foot in Galveston beach water since I was a kid. And never will.
