Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I am in the same boat. What has been helping me is remembering every single time in my life where things turned out to work better when I didn’t get what I wanted.
It’s good to have a target and works towards, I don’t know any other way. But also important in this journey is to ask the powers to be (management), why not, is it performance, competition is better or market dynamics… otherwise you’re driving yourself crazy not knowing. I hope that helps.
Depends on why and what level. If it is a timing thing (you and the firm both think it will happen), then 6 months / 1 year won’t make any difference in a 40 year career. If it is because you need to build a specific capability, work on it as getting this promotion will also build capabilities you don’t have today. However, if it is purely office politics / lack of mentorship, look for alternatives. Quit now with your sanity and peace

Getting promoted and not getting laid off are 2 different goals. Both are dependent on a lot of factors outside of your control. Do your best, learn new things, connect with people, and then pray for the best
