I’m going on eight years in public accounting (individual tax) and manager for 3 yrs, and I’ve been approached for a small firm CFO position. While there does seem to be overlap in a lot of what I’ve done as a B4 tax manager, I’m concerned I don’t actually have the specialized knowledge or yrs of service to succeed. They’ve emphasized they’re looking for a CPA with my level of experience. It would be way better hours and still really good pay. Does B4 tax experience lend well to a CFO role?

I personally don’t think so. Normally it’s auditors who step into a CFO role maybe after working in FAAS (financial accounting advisory services) which is what we call it at EY

I would suggest to just be honest about what your experience, your strengths and weaknesses and let the employer decide if you’re the right fit. They know the role the best

Hear that appraisals happen for an employee every year around the first ever joining date. Is this true? And, does performance review happens with your manager or how does it work ?

Current market rate for federal tax S2 in NYC?

I like my current job, company and public accounting. I know I am being underpaid at $70k as a senior tax associate with 2-3 years of experience as I have talked with my local peers as well as local recruiters. Also, I know outside hires to my company get paid about $5-$10k higher than me, but they don’t get a raise the following year. My question is what is everyone’s experience with company hopping to get a pay bump within public accounting?

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
