I’m prepping someone’s tax return who I see everyday on tv. It’s kind of cool being privy to a celebrity’s confidential financial information. 😁 I’ve also prepped a famous athlete and actor last week.

Can you imagine being the staff who preps or has prepped Trump’s return but can’t say a word to anyone for fear of being sued?

Probably depreciating the land too! 😂

I love working on returns for important people or people that own big companies I’m familiar with. Also depressing as it makes me realize how poor I am.

It is pretty neat working on those returns. I've worked on a couple of Chick-Fil-A franchise store owner's returns. They make good money

like

Yeah, I can speak from personal experience that the store owners themselves give away free food to all kinds of organizations they want to support. CFA corporate is seperate and I don't know what they send funds to, but overall it's a very generous company. Perhaps they just don't give to LGBTQ organizations? 🤷‍♂️

I work at a mid size firm. Typical partnerships and hnw, but nothing too crazy. Most incomes well below $1M. I had a partnership with 25 partners I was setting up, one the partners was a billionaire. His form was filled out correctly and had his signature and ssn. A third of the partners didn’t fill out their paperwork correctly, missing SSNs/EINs or signatures, etc. Half had their interest in an LLC or trust. I was kind of surprised to see someone worth a billion+ not have their interest held in a convoluted structure.

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

Hi,

Where to invest to reduce the taxable income of 8 lakhs after investing 1.5 lakhs under 80c and HRA 1 lakhs ? Medical insurance 50 k I’m aware of it and I don not plan on any house loan. Please suggest.

like

For rent paid below 1 lakh there is no need to submit landlord's PAN. I have calculated based on my HRA and if I show rent paid as around 96k my tax refund will be around 13k.

However there is no rent agreement or rent receipts.

Will it be a problem later on if I show this in my ITR?

And as for the interest amount in the Savings Account and Fixed Deposits, do both fall under "Income from Interest"? Or under "Other Income"? Or does Interest amount in Savings account fall under "Interest from Deposits - 80TTA"?

The figures are given in the screenshot 👇🏻

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
