I think this will be hard. The issue isn’t really the size of the firm but the fact that your experience is not relevant to most of their client base. So for the first year or so you will be learning the forms and rules. I would suggest focusing on how well you learn and people skills.
Yep, big learning curve ahead for them. The client work is a lot different.
Honestly, commanding what you can get comp wise in big 4 and not being very in tune with what they will have for you to work on is not usually a recipe for success
Make the case for yourself with what you already know and what you are willing to learn. I would go into like any other negotiation, understand what is realistic and start at the high end. Don’t sell yourself short, but do not oversell out of the realistic numbers.
If they ask show them the research. Then tell them. I’m worth it and look straight them ? And mean it
Iurah one time this coworker was worried about something. I told to be careful. They might actually fire you. I’ve experienced that to. It happened to me. I was doing my job but lost my job for it. I didn’t understand why then. But.
That was part of my job.
I don’t understand what this has to do with the original post
I’d love to work in international tax at PwC, can you please give me a referral?
If the small firm has int’l tax issues where your experience is a game changer for the firm, to the point that the firm can grow then you are bringing value.
On the other hand, if the small firm does not do int’l tax work, and you cannot bring them any clients, then you are entering a different game than the one you have been playing, and they will need to get you up to speed on the typical issues. If this is the case I would not be aggressive.
