McKinsey & Company How likely is McKinsey to rescind an offer if there's a recession/downturn before my start date? Received an Associate offer with a start date early in the Fall. But I'm worried about the offer being rescinded due to the ongoing McK scandals/issues and a potential recession in the making (which may prompt them to freeze hiring and/or renege offers).
Has this happened to anyone before at McKinsey, offer getting rescinded due to economic/company downturn? A bit worried

Sooner the better. They want you young and moldable.

IB is the right route and the right time is now

Right now, nobody is moving. Deals have dried up — bonuses are 50% of what they used to be. They’re pushing people out.
Last year was the best year.
IBD is extremely rough. Think careful about going there, especially if just as a stepping stone for buyside. Especially if you haven’t internet there, etc. MBB would be safer bet where you get a similar lifestyle etc with still v viable options. T2 also not impossible btw so you could stay where you are and network, learn modelling etc
This is really helpful. I’m assuming this is the same with PE/VC? Just thinking about potential exit ops in the future
Hey OP. Similar boat as you have 7-8 YOE with a mix of industry , strat/CDD experience. If you are already at a T2 (like me, Jumping ship to MBB won’t change much in terms of exits if you are looking into PE/VC). IBD is not a good move
Best time to exit would be around manager (after being in the role of manager for a year) to PE/VC.
Some of the roles you can look into is biz ops, port co corp development or M&A . Most of these roles you can find through networking with your client/PE funds you work for. Basically jumping ship to the client
Sure!
For IB, the longer you wait, the less you will be trusted to do the work the right way (what M1 said about being moldable). I had a similar thought about what’s next from PwC, and could barely get IB people to talk, let alone PE. It’s been day and night for me personally. March will start looking more promising for IB roles
Ya it’d help with transferable skills, but would still be a grind. You may very well be smarter all-around, but my firm would take somebody with M&A experience 100% of the time. I also assume MBB/T2S + IB beats out anybody else on paper which was part of my motivation honestly
