So- we run Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO) for our clients display ads in a feed and corresponding google sheet via Google DoubleClick. My q is- does anyone know what systems out there allow for creating a template that will automatically pull a product image from say Target.com and automatically building the ad & copy without manually making 1000 ads via row for row in the google sheet? I know this is possible but curious if Sizmek or Flashtalking are more common in this type of creative development.

Try to create some kind of structure or schedule for them. Whatever tasks they do, tell them to focus on that for a set period of time, and save their questions for later. Or, try to figure out the answers on their own. If you get the point across that going to work means, well, doing work, and not just asking questions all day, you will have helped them learn something that will always be useful.
Good idea! I should be better at scheduling for them each day
Can you have them shadow you so that way they are observing real-world work and feeling like they are getting some benefit out of that? I felt like I learned a lot when I was able to shadow people during my internship, as opposed to just doing menial tasks.
i never thought of that! thanks will try!
Aw! Having an intern that is actually eager and engaged is such a blessing. Maybe you can delegate a task or two to them to keep them occupied (and help lighten your workload).
They are sweet but also sometimes a little too eager haha! But will do :)
Questions are great as it shows they’re trying to learn & engaged, that said I definitely get where you’re coming from. I generally break off small tasks they can tackle by themselves and point them in the direction of where they can self serve the information they’ll need to get the job done.
I like this approach as it allows you to see how they tackle a problem on their own. It also allows you to see where any gaps are so you can train them more effectively.
Generally I’ve found carving out tasks that can become part of their BAU early on helps a lot too.
Totally, they are so nice sometimes just hard to keep busy haha! this is great instruction i will do my best!

I have scheduled 1:1 meetings with my intern. She makes the most of her time then. She also has scheduled time with other coworkers.
ooh going to have them meet others!
It feels like the general advice here is spot on — everyone needs clarity, purpose, and something to own. Spend some time helping them plan the week ahead. Make sure they know what they’re doing each day and look for key meetings or wider business sessions where they can shadow you — those moments are gold for learning.
Give them ownership of a side project too — maybe there’s a process that could be improved, or something creative they could shape or research. Even if it doesn’t lead to a perfect solution, just trying and adding value will boost their confidence and win positive feedback. Who knows — they might actually uncover something big!
Ask them to build a resource pack from what they learn and turn it into a short presentation. There’s insight and data everywhere — help them turn that into something meaningful. It’s a great way to get them contributing between BAU tasks, and it’ll help you guide their development.
Confidence comes from doing. The more they start and own, the more they grow — and with the right culture, that’ll be an incredibly powerful thing. You might even find they ask fewer questions over time… because they’re starting to solve them on their own.
And honestly — they’ll probably love you for it!
Great advice! I will be taking this to heart and do my best to give them clarity and honesty!

Depends on your area of work, but we have a few internal wikis. I try to share a document and if something isn’t documented give them the task to document it for you and the team. If you can delegate a specific ask to a team member you can tell them to come back with a draft.
thats a good idea, there is plenty to read out here haha
I feel for you. I rarely had the patience to deal with interns like this. I prefer to work with people who can take instructions and just go.
haha i am trying my best
Try getting an MBA. Will help you manage better

How’s it going with the intern? Find any best practices you can share?
