From my experience, work experience and portfolio are always more important.
I agree, they really just want experience.
I personally don’t think so. however, there are issues when applying where you’ll (sometimes) get passed up without certain degrees. Someone with no experience but education can automatically make it past you.
I find this extremely annoying as I have 13 years of experience that gets no attention.
If you've got a good portfolio & know the programs - no.
I got a degree in order to have those things. For me it was the best way to learn, make connections, & have a polished portfolio.
But if you can get those things another way - you'll be fine!
I have a degree in Graphic Design and learned nothing from it. Despite having a reputation, I truly found my school it to be a colossal cluster*uck of dysfunction, lead and taught by incredible buffoons. Seriously.............But I will say having that degree has helped me out a lot. Companies like to see it. It's sort of a dumb technicality but it does holds weight
