You suck it up. Let your work show your knowledge, get a designation or 2 and they’ll go away. It isn’t ageism…it’s just the natural progression that everyone lives with
This is not natural in any healthy organization. If you’re being dismissed and you feel it’s due to your inexperience and youth, it likely is dismissal. I’ve been in corporate America for 40 years as a people leader. I have seen this Happen. Good leaders engage their younger hires and continue to build skills of all employees regardless of age. If this is what you’re experiencing, it ageism.
Preparation. Pick a few specific items tied to your line of business and dive head first into it. Become an expert.
Just put in the work and perform, your results will show in your customer satisfaction and your retention.
I worked with a young woman and she kept saying people were ageist when actually it was her toxic behaviors giving her poor results. Never make yourself a victim in your story. The goal is to enjoy what you do for decades ahead.
Also, yes some women can be very nasty in the workplace. That's a reflection of their weakness. It has nothing to do with you. Never lose your integrity by playing dirty.
Show older employees some respect. Too many young people believe they are all that and that anyone over 40 should be laid out to pasture. Be open to learning.
Keep building your experience. Don't worry about age; older workers fear the same but there are other things at work. Learn from.mentors at work: they will teach you how to work most effectively. Join Toastmasters to give you confidence speaking to others and making what you say have more clarity. Keep building your skills an plan where you want to be in your next job and what skills you need to get there.
Heres a different perspective. I’m a bit older than my colleagues and I’ve noticed that they can do the work but take advantage of the company. Not being in office on the days they’re supposed to, leaving early on in office days. Kids being in almost every meeting. Maybe it’s not personal but rather they’re distancing themselves because just a few years ago we were in office 5 days per week 8-5 dressed business casual and they just see a new group of new hires doing things differently
Do your job to the best of your ability. Take the AIC courses and out work your coworkers. Learn something everyday and mentor people.
Work smarter, not harder
I was told many years ago don't ask a question without already knowing the answer. Read the manual and then read it again!
