I’m planning a career development session for my team and want to make it as impactful as possible. The team is a mix of early-career folks figuring out their paths and more experienced employees looking for growth opportunities. I’d love to include tools or frameworks that help with goal setting, skill assessments, and long-term career planning. Have you used any resources—workshops, books, activities, or even specific exercises—that really resonated with your teams? I’m looking for recommendations that can cater to different career stages and spark meaningful discussions. What’s worked well for you?

I’ve had great success using the GROW model (Goal, Reality, Options, Way Forward) in career development sessions. It helps structure conversations around personal and professional goals, regardless of career stage. We also incorporate self-assessment tools like StrengthsFinder to help team members identify their strengths and how to leverage them. Pair that with breakout discussions for sharing insights, and it creates really meaningful engagement.

Hello, I have accepted an offer at a competitor company and sent in my resignation letter. My start date is 5 weeks from now so I put in my end date 4 weeks from date letter was signed. Just wondering if any Junior designers feel the same but I work as the only graphic designer in a small digital marketing agency and lately there isn't any new projects and work coming in at least in my "department". No one is really touching base on anything but I'm still getting paid a salary ($42k/y). I worry that they may just cut me off any time soon since I feel I haven't been contributing as much as I want despite reaching out for any new requests. Thought?

Is it a bad to tell new case team members you’re a little more introverted? We do these team normings in the beginning of projects and I’ve mentioned that I’m more introverted to help them understand how to collaborate better with me. I feel like it helps especially during remote work. However, I’m debating if I should stop because people might judge me negatively. Thoughts?

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

I have issues “delegating” or simply assigning tasks, which as a Manager is a whole thing. Like I feel “bad” asking my people to do things that i know i can do but shouldn’t because it’s not up to me. When I assign a task i try to be super clear with instructions, give examples, help them get started…but I still feel bad. Idk. Anyone goes through this?

Does anyone else just not even want to be a people manager anymore?! The amount of work this is taking, I’m just so over it. In addition to them piling on my work (which is a full time job) the people management stuff is just as much a full time job that no one in management seems to take into account. I have tried countless times to explain this but I end up burnt out, everyone suffers including me. I just left one role bc of it and now this new role, same thing. I’m over it.
