I’m realizing my career path has been shaped more by the managers I’ve had than the roles I’ve held. One good leader accelerated me and one bad one stalled me for a year. How much weight do you put on who you work for versus what you do.

For me, it's been a combination of management and my own motivation. I've had managers who encouraged me to go for opportunities but I wasn't ready or didn't feel like I was. I've had managers who would actively discourage me from pursuing opportunities. I guess it's a little bit of both.

This is true for me
My manager is the first line on my progress
My manager being someone I want to work with is also critical

Now that you mention it, I have had the same experience. A good manager can make a huge difference in your career progression. And just like you said, a bad manager can keep you held back.

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?
