Used section at any decent golf store will have solid club selection for good prices. They sell old demos and trade ins
Any starter set should work like the one I liked below. For beginners, I’d suggest any set that has a driver, 3 wood, 5 hybrid, 6-9 irons, pitching wedge and putter. You’ll want regular flex on the shafts and decent balls once you get to the course. No need for expensive balls but you’ll want semi decent once playing on a course. DM me if you have any other specific questions - happy to answer.

Agreed. Avoid these starter sets. Facebook marketplace or Craigslist should have plenty of used sets that cost the same as this and are much better.
Don’t spend a lot of money on a starter set. Get something modern but used , or buy one of those starter sets that gives you everything for $400 or whatever. Once you actually know what your doing you can start spending real $ to build the right set. That will run you $3000+ but no need if your terrible.
Do not - DO NOT - get a $400 here’s all your clubs set. Stick to name brands (Titleist, taylormade, mizuno, Srixon, Cleveland, cobra, callaway, adams, maybe some other I’m forgetting). Anything used and recent (think post-2010) is fine. If I were you I’d think ~$700 on a decent beginner set. They should be marketed or labelled as “game improvement” or “cavity back”
Arguably most important factor of clubs is shaft flex. As a beginner I would think you want regular flex, but if you are a strong and athletic young guy then maybe consider stiff shafts.
I’ve played my whole life and love golf equipment - feel free to ask any other questions you’ve got
Long Island has fantastic courses. The tee times get booked quick.
eBay or global golf - all used to start.
If you’re looking to buy gear at a reasonable price check out rockbottomgolf.com great site. Have fun! I started last June and I’m obsessed now. 🏌️♂️
I’d go used for clubs. Leverage the pro you see for help. Definitely learn some golf etiquette. Unfortunately, it’s not always newbie friendly. Par 3 courses are a nice way to ease in. Also, be prepared to suck. It really is a very tough and humbling game but there are moments that can hook you. Enjoy them and have fun. Figure out what you want from it and make it happen.
