Go for it. Even if it makes for a bit of hassle when you return, you will not regret it. As for what to do while you're away, I'd try to find a minimal effort part time role, maybe halfway through your sabbatical. That'll give anyone reviewing your resume the impression that you were still doing something to keep your skills sharp. They don't need to know how much/little work you were actually doing.
I mean, it probably wouldn't help. But life is short and work will always be there. I took an extended time off to backpack around SEA a few years back and guess what? Work was waiting for me when I got back! It always is!
Did you rejoin your old company or a new one?
I did it in 2023 (minus the new language part). Loved it, and didn't hurt me when I came back.
Do it!! You'll never regret it.
Take the year off, you will have amazing memories and learn about yourself so much. Perhaps, you can take free coursera accounting courses throughout your time off or through other platforms. ✈️🌆🌃🏞️
