What might work better considering your position: Get a domain name and point it to a social profile you’ve setup showcasing your work. Might be a more fresh approach to a portfolio.
For example, you send people to yourname.com, redirects to an IG profile, each square on the grid is either a carousel or video showcasing a different social project you worked on.

I’m betting almost everyone in this bowl has their portfolio on a website. So yes, it’s essential. Every client looks at mine before hiring me.

I’ve seen people get away without one but they’re the exception to the rule. You can keep it basic and it will only help you. And you don’t need an LLC to have a website if that’s what you were implying

& your hosting. I don’t have a portfolio. However, a few job postings have asked for a website. Basically, to see what else you like to do. I started a fashion blog last August. It’s def a WIP. It helps coming up in freelance conversations. I would think as a social media manager. You could use it to showcase the type of work or campaigns. You’ve worked on or aspiring to. Social media is more important. It will def help.
