I'm trying to use AI to improve my resume. Where I used to have descriptions of my past responsibilities (job requirements); the idea was that someone would have a feel for what I can do for them. But it has me change those into explaining WHAT I did to meet that requirement; so, for example, instead of "tree triming" it had me put "Reduced the number of deliquent branches by 30% while harvesting available assets" but that doesn't say I was ultimately timing trees. Which is right?

The answer is probably “somewhere in the middle.”

A couple of tips:
- don’t tell the LLM that you’re doing something for a resume. Otherwise, it will make your resume sound like the other 1,000 resumes who used the same LLM. You want to stand out.
- understand that the goal isn’t to sound sophisticated or complex, but to let the hiring manager and/or recruiter know what you’re capable of and why you’re a good fit for the job because you have done similar things in the past. The average resume gets less than 10 seconds of eyeball time, so if they have to read a long sentence and think about whether it applies, you’ve already lost. Sounds like you know this, but perhaps you haven’t made the LLM understand that this is what you’re looking for.
- ask the LLM to re-word what you’re doing as if you’re talking to an 8 to 10 year old… or to be more direct with the “story” you’re trying to tell. This is actually the opposite of what has historically been done on resumes, but what is necessary to stand out in this era of 1,000+ resumes per job opening.

That 8-10 year old trick is actually brilliant - makes you focus on being super clear, not just fancy. I catch myself slipping back into resume-buzzwords way too easily.

Mixing in punchy, direct lines actually helped me stand out at my last gig search. Paid off big time since recruiters see hundreds of the same template resumes daily.

I usually try rewording stuff with a mix of Jobscan, ResumeJudge, and Resume Worded, quick-scanning for ATS keywords before sending anything out. Keeps me honest about what matters in the role, too.

Once you see how your resume parses for a job you really want, it's way easier to ditch fluff that hurts your chances. Ever notice weird formatting breaks your score? That part trips people up a lot - should check yours next time you update.

It is trying to make your job sound more productive and descriptive. Always look to see what words are in the job description and use them in your resume. You can always change the words if you want.

like

Ive been told adding in the measurements can be helpful if your role uses that criteria. Now that there are ways to customize a resume for each application, there ways to detect that the resume was customized by AI so you may want to be certain you can speak to the changes or use the changes as a suggestion for grammar but still proceed with your own words?

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.
