Might be wishful thinking, but I do think we’ll see a full circle moment at some point. People won’t be able to read AI-generated nonsense and want the human element of news and articles.
I don't think the AI slop will be sustainable, it's cheap to produce but no one wants it. Given the dumbing down of society, the audience for quality writing will be small, but there is a chance it will grow. But I'll admit it's easy to be pessimistic about it all.
All newsrooms should ban AI, but with profit squeeze, it's use will grow.
Feels like we are heading towards a world where “real” journalism becomes niche—like vinyl records or artisan bread. Valuable but rare. I just hope we do not price it out of reach for everyday people.
Like others have said, I hope AI is a phase and they realise it loses credibility and engagement. I do think the zombie journalism churning out articles is not dying anytime soon.
