In a recent meeting, a manager brought up a national report on the incomes needed to "get by" in each US state. For ours, that number was $10k+ more than what I make despite doing a job I love at the company for several years. My hardworking coworkers are in the same boat income-wise. It was hard to keep the shock (and rage) off our faces, particularly since the manager was totally oblivious to our reaction. Morale is at an all-time low. What can I do, knowing a raise is going to be shot down?

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
