Never want to go back to the office

Never have commuted that route but familiar with many ppl who have. Unfortunately, it’s a common route bc west side is where a lot of the market resides. But no one can afford or wants to live there. It’s similar to how no one from LA wants to pick up someone from LAX. We will avoid it at all costs. (Source: LA native here)

Yes and some ppl do. But most ppl I met never stay there too long. Quality of life and COL being the biggest factor. But if you have the $$ then by all means, do it. Just my experience.

Live in Echo Park office in Playa Vista on the average it was an hour each way. I got really into audio books and podcasts so enjoyed my time in the car as my “me” time.

2 + hours each way. After two years, it was seriously affecting my mental health. That said, I was the most up to date podcast listener in the USA.

LA is a tough place to put in roots. When we finally did, moving across town might as well have been moving to the moon. Just my experience, though.

What’s the commute like from, say, DTLA to somewhere more central like West Adams?

Returned from sick leave and found out from other people at the office I totally messed up on a project that I worked on prior to sick leave. Now that my reputation has been ruined and facing an upcoming negative performance review. No one at the office stood up for me despite of positive work done prior to COVID or wants to hear what I have to say. I m bothered by this gaslighting practice both professionally and personally. I felt I was designated as the scape goat. Continued.

Anyone else at a firm so rooted in the past that you’re embarrassed explaining it to other attorneys? Example: We are 10 months into COVID and my firm still hasn’t decided on/implemented a video meeting platform (Zoom, Teams, etc.). So if I want to have a video meeting I have to ask the other party to use their video services. And it’s not at all a funding issue.

I’ve been on a couple dates with a guy and we got ~physical~ on the second date. Third date is this week but due to COVID reasons I want to know if he’s seeing other people... what’s the best way to ask without thoroughly freaking him out? Usually I wouldn’t care this early but I feel like I need to be aware of his “germ pool” 😂

Curious, are attorneys taking cases to sue hospitals and staff that the family members claim have ‘wrongly’ intubated unvaccinated COVID patients? As in they should not have been intubated? Saw a FB page where a woman is blaming the hospital staff that his husband should not have been intubated and says she has been contacted by many attorneys to sue the hospital.

It seems that a lot of women in accounting struggle with finding a relationship in the middle of their career. I’m finding myself to be in the same boat, and am thinking about seeing a therapist to learn to be okay to be alone. I don’t want to use dating apps as it feels forced, and I know I am craving a man to fill up my time and that’s not the way to go. Covid is not helping. Relatable?

Hello, I wanted your opinion on the importance of professional connections within the tech community? How many of you got your first tech job because of a connection? I am really trying to get into tech, but I do not have any professional connections and I am wondering if this is really important for obtaining a job. I have a master's degree in digital history and a AS in Web Design and some websites (although I could use more) and I am not sure why I am getting no calls for interviews.

We always keep hearing about the bad WLB in MBB, especially BCG. Want to know if it's actually true, or is it an untrue rumor spread by people who couldn't get into these companies. (Note - I am talking about incremental WLB issues, over and above the issues at Deloitte S&O, Accenture Strategy, etc. as these issues are common in management consulting)
