I started my career in my hometown, a city with about 135k people. After 4 years was at the point where I buy a house or move to a bigger city (600k people), I went with the ‘big’ city option. I lived there for about 18 months then the pandemic hit. Since then I still have my apartment in the new city but have been staying with my family in my hometown 95% of the time. One of the primary aims of the criminal justice reform movement is to help ex-convicts re-enter the workforce by sealing criminal records, and making it more difficult for employers to judge applicants based on criminal history. I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

Can someone discuss the pros and cons of having a gym close to work vs having a gym near home but still would have to commute there, go back home then go to work. To me it seems more convenient to just on the way to work go to the gym, shower, then go into the office.

At this point in career, would you take a step down in title to grab a transfer opportunity and get out of a toxic work environment ?

We are buying a house and my knee jerk response was to look at a 30 year fixed mortgage (because that’s what I’ve always done). I realized last night that a 30 year mortgage might outlast me. Having a bit of an existential crisis now.
