YES! I can't tell you how much free work I have done for companies that end up ghosting me... beyond frustrating. I even saw a piece I wrote for the company as a pre-screen USED by the company, yet I didn't get hired. It honestly made me laugh out loud.
If people would quit doing it, they would stop asking
Some may hate me for this, but when I am required to submit videos, I don't go for it anymore. Just imagine how much time it takes and without a guarantee that I'll be invited for an interview. Just not necessary for me.
I feel your pain. Unfortunately (especially in the Remote Work environment), your ability to communicate effectively by digital means is an essential and sought after skill. I know of tens, if not hundreds, of candidates that have been successful using a microsite platform. This way you can populate a microsite with your resume, experience, testimonials, etc. Then when an employer asks for a video, you just record a quick 30-second video and point that at the other content in your microsite. It should not take more than 1.5 minutes from start to end. I find it actually quicker and less effort than preparing a cover email/letter! Just rinse and recycle for the next one. I got my job using onemob.com (free).
I've done 5 self interview videos for a broadband provider based out of Colorado. After each completed video I did, part of their interviewing process after submitting my resume, I heard nothing. I've sworn to myself to never look at jobs for that particular company ever again. If they don't want me and my spent video work time, I don't want them.
That’s how I feel. Why submit a video if you won’t hear back. While it doesn’t seem like it’s a lot of effort they do add up.
