Is anyone embarrassed by their company being on the list as a donator to the East Wing destruction?

East wing was constructed by Jefferson. Rose garden was added by Kennedy. The north patio was added by Jackson.

All of those were severely criticized by the Congress at that time. So of a million things to be outraged about including trade, foreign policy , domestic chaos, culling of social programs …this would be absolute last on my list. Unless the tax dollars were funding it. It’s an office space

likehelpful

You guys will literally lap up anything fox news and similar feed you. Of course you want to ignore that all of that, and I mean all of it, was approved by Congress prior to Obama even taking office. But hey, facts don't matter. Only the faux rage you fall for every. single. time.

The East Wing is another distraction from what really matters.

Yes.

We’ve gone from “don’t talk about politics at work” and we will not stray from “issues that are unrelated to our core mission, because we believe impact only comes with focus" to sponsoring the military parade and this renovation, all while campaigning on legislation that will dramatically increase our competition.

It’s been interesting.

Pretty much everyone in the United States donated when Obama installed a basketball court at the Whitehouse. As in we paid with American tax dollars. Funny that nobody said one thing about that. I guess TDS makes people do strange things when Trump does something that's not charging the American people one slim dime.

It’s standard MAGA ‘whataboutism’ DD1. It’s like comparing robbing a bank and shoplifting. They are both stealing and so they are both an equal crime.

You mean the ballroom construction?

like

Two steps

1. Tear down what is there now
2. Build something new in its place

Only being able to see 1, but not 2... that's a pretty negative attitude, isn't it?

I bet gentrification gets you rock hard doesn’t it

No, unless you had litigation or regulation with the Feds your company was trying to avoid. Then yeah, your company has highly questionable ethics. But no, the hyperventilating about the East Wing doesn’t matter. The vast majority of Americans do not care about the historic preservation of the White House and Democrats that make a big deal of it are losing the plot line. MAGA will win again if you all continue this silliness.

likefunny

Donations happen all the time. It’s kinda who funds both parties. Hyperventilating about losing the east wing is stupid. Angry about donations is silly. Angry about using donations to influence litigation or regulations, that is worth getting angry about IMO.

Mine isn’t but I am still embarrassed by the other companies. They could spend that $ on their employees or their own facilities.

likefunny

Like that is what they would do. 🤣

likefunny

Reality is most companies donate to causes on BOTH sides.

At least this is a contribution to build something that presidents on both sides of the aisle will use for years to come. Lots of presidents make improvements to the Whitehouse.

Also, with everything going on in the world why do ppl have time and energy to care about this???

likefunny

A “cause” and a ballroom are different. This would be considered unprecedented spend, even if they had a budget allocated to political campaigns. Did companies feel pressured into contributing? That should concern everyone if yes.

What is the impact on employees when companies shift millions of $$ to a random external thing like a ballroom? Does it impact your bonus pool?

No, I think when the Biden administration had the Reconciliation monument removed from Arlington cemetery was more damning because it had Confederate soldiers on it. And it was nearly as old as the East wing.

Not at all. But I love watching you people cry about it every day.

No, not at all. Why would anyone be embarrassed by something that has occurred many times in history? I am an independent and neither embarrassed nor constantly obsessed with these types of issues.

You should be proud your president is privately funding a beautiful project for decades to come, you should not be proud however of funding a terrorist state in the Middle East though

Why would you be embarrassed ?

like

Grow up. It’s construction. Currently when the White House hosts world leaders for large events they do it in a TENT on the lawn. It’s embarassing that the US cannot properly entertain large events. These companies are contributing to a legacy that is the White House. You need to leave your alt-left echo chambers and get some fresh air. Other administrations have made improvements with TAX PAYER dollars. This is privately funding by MANY companies who were previously under the thumb of AutoPen administration and if this was done during that administration the left would have celebrated it.

An agency I freelance for wants to hire me full-time. They told me for a Sr Copywriter, 100-110k. I countered with 125-150.

I also said I'm interested in a higher-level title - I currently freelance as a Creative Director of Copy elsewhere (they don't have that title at this agency.)

They came back and said yes to the title and to 125, with a 6 month review that could raise it to 145.

Which is good for Sr Copy, but low for CD/ACD level. Don't want to screw myself over. What to say now?

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?
