Paypal Hello, I've been offered Data engineer /Software Engineer at PayPal, india.
How's the company doing, is it profitable? Bit skeptical about the recent layoffs at PayPal.
Any data engineers at PayPal around? Whats your thoughts, how's the team doing and how would be the growth?

That's the problem with San Diego -- great city, no opportunity down there.
You might have to just do freelance if that's where you want to stay.
As someone who has worked “hybrid remote” for nearly 15 years for many agencies, - including agencies located in San Diego a true fully remote role for a leader / or contributor who also leads doesn’t exist. TLDR your location has some value as well as your skills.
You have to be with your team, clients and the like and there is no substitute for quality time on the ground. I enjoy being remote, travel is annoying but it’s necessary. In advertising the travel money is less and less of large budgets so you need to reside “near” somewhere to have some location value. That might be an office where the team is, your main client or clusters of clients or vendors you collaborate with a lot.
Agree. I am totally fine with some travel to the office and love being on shoots but most of the senior roles I see posted right now want someone to come in 2-3 days a week or live in the metro area.

There are some, but obviously not as much as during the pandemic. Holding companies are the least likely to. I think Dentsu and R/GA still do, but nobody else does.
You’d have more luck in house or with indie agencies. Maybe some of the Stagwell ones.
I freelance, and still do remote. But FT is more difficult.
Love San Diego btw. Went to SDSU (go Aztecs!) but at least when I lived there had a very weak ad industry. Pretty much non existent, so I left. Now it’s so expensive I can’t imagine surviving there. I’m in the mid west now, but how I miss it.
Thanks, these are great tips. I interviewed for a remote GCD Dentsu role last month but they dissolved that role before I could get too far. Yes, it’s not cheap to live in SD but we are pretty rooted here and we do love it but definitely not the best market for our field. I will look into Stagwell. Thanks again for your help!
Unfortunately, in a similar situation. Move during the pandemic when remote jobs were aplenty, and now things have shifted to RTO or hybrid 😮💨
