Yeah, we’re having a women only in-office day to show appreciation.
I am sorry but I read your comment and I was wondering if you would be able to clarify. Does an in office only for women day mean that the women at your company have to physically come into the office while the men get the day off or get to work remotely? Because if so, that sounds like a punishment for the women and the men are seeing the benefits of International Women’s Day, which seems fairly cruel.
Our company isn’t, but I’m hosting a Women In Leadership panel for our women’s & young leaders ERGs!
When will there also be an International Men’s Day? What about an International Non-Binary Day? Will anyone dare to answer those questions?
I’d just like to point out the obvious in that having an “Appreciation Day” (week, month, year) for individuals and targeted groups has really gone out of control. Naming days (weeks, months, years) after people and groups and expecting the wider community to perpetually celebrate them is beyond the pale of egoism. The same can be said about holidays. There are just TOO MANY. I’m sure at least one other person on this planet, if not millions or billions more, would roll their eyes all the way to the back of their head and noddingly raise their hand in agreement with me.
It’s high time and way past due to just stop with all the days (weeks, months and years) being singled out for every little or big niche group “Appreciation” demand, and to just get back to the civilized basics of Common Courtesy, good manners, and expressing acknowledgment of and appreciation for each other as fellow humans EVERY DAY, without attaching a label and applying forced and faked “Appreciation” for that label to a specific date. The greeting card, florist, customized gift and bakery businesses will still make plenty of money, and everyone will be that much happier without having to mark another discriminatory “Save the Date” on their calendars.
