Bain & Company I’m from Italy and will start my master’s degree at Oxbridge this fall. I got my undergrad from a target uni in continental Europe. I want to start my career in consulting, possibly MBB, in London. I know consulting firms tend to hire locally but I’d really like to work in London and that’s also one of the main reasons why I went for the Oxbridge degree. CISSP is worth it if you have experience. It can help get your resume shortlisted but what I have found in Cyber is experience trumps certifications.
Some recruiters won’t shortlist you without a cert as they don’t know what to look for in a resume or the automated scanner is set to favour certain certs
I personally look for experience over certs as the number i interview who passed the exam but don’t know real world scenarios at a senior level is too common (not just cissp)
You need both experience and certs to make it work or shortlisted for an opportunity.
Knowing a tiny bit about everything isn’t too helpful, especially when most of that knowledge can quickly be obtained online. The bar for keeping the certification is really low as well, so there’s nothing keeping you relevant in a fast moving industry. IMO it’s better to specialize in something (e.g., cloud) and get certs related to that specialty.
