McKinsey & Company Bain & Company I’m from Italy and will start my master’s degree at Oxbridge this fall. I got my undergrad from a target uni in continental Europe. I want to start my career in consulting, possibly MBB, in London. I know consulting firms tend to hire locally but I’d really like to work in London and that’s also one of the main reasons why I went for the Oxbridge degree. Anyone, who might have some tips, or went through a similar experience? McKinsey & Company Boston Consulting Group Bain & Company

If there’s an office in your home country (I know there is from all firms) - your application will be sent there 99%. If you value working in London more than working at MBB, join a lower-prestige firm (eg FTE or AT Kearney or RB and work you way up from there)

If I were you I would choose working at a good boutique in London over going back to Italy any time of the da. You could also do DD heavy boutique and then pivot to small PE shop… the world is yours - solve for where you want to live your weekends and good luck in your apps

Can’t help you with that really - sorry

London office has some space for visas (limited by govt but not sure of the number) - that said, if you’re recruiting via oxbridge, you should have an official recruiting programme and should just vocalise your interest in the London office. There is generally a need to demonstrate your ties to the country (ie family, relationships, etc) you’re applying to.

I think it takes you as far as getting an interview. After that it’s up to you

Don’t listen to EM1. MBB will not let you live in London when there’s an office in Italy except if Italy doesn’t want any more people of your tenure and you are ultra strong candidate that can beat HBS students (who also some of them pivot to London for their own reasons). Alternative is working for 3-4 years at another firm and then pivoting to McK (although not sure this makes a lot of sense but To each his own)

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) been recruiting lately and this is the message given. It also depends on department. I know for a fact we have hired an Italian national post masters for a BA position into PEPI London so it is possible when the need is high and the fit is good.

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

I am a coverage lawyer whose firm has a national practice. I’m at the stage now where marketing and developing business is an everyday thought. Offer time.

Current comp - 106k base, very happy with my project/team. On track for promo next year. Great WLB (it took a while to get here).

New company - lateral move, 130k base, 15k sign on bonus.

The only reason for me to jump right now would be because of the base pay. I feel like I'm leaving a lot of money on the table with that 24k base pay gap. That's a mortgage for me. Main concern is that I'm scared of risking my WLB.
