These days I think it’s even more red flaggy to not post it, to not ask, to not negotiate
Are you kidding? No it is not a red flag to ask a recruiter
We all have bills to pay. We need to know if/how we’re going to pay them. Definitely shouldn’t be a red flag.
A headhunter / recruiter yes absolutely; a direct hire, yes but have some tact and grace and don’t just blurt out “So what does this position pay?”
Some states have laws that require that the range be included in the job listing. I agree with others that you should be tactful when asking, but you should always ask.
A recruiter should be the one disclosing their pay range so that they are not wasting your time. Before they does any recruiting it’s a question they should have asked you first.
Rising Star
Totally fine to ask the recruiter. With an HR person/someone in the company, I would bury it within a couple of other logistical/other questions, just to give the flavor that you’re really interested and doing your research. I just think that give a better first impression.
There are salary transparency laws in NY, IL, and other states. Why waste your time and theirs if the salary doesn’t work for you?
