I personally would not enter the LinkedIn comment thunderdome. By the time you type “Interested!” there are already 147 others doing the same, and the actual conversations are happening quietly in DMs.
I always use those LinkedIn posts as a lead to grow to the given company’s career portal and apply the old fashioned way. Like you, I just can’t bring myself to self-promote. It’s gotten me this far 🤷♂️.
Send a connection request, then DM them. If they posted something like that, they’re usually accepting requests and open to chatting in private.
Couldn’t agree more on commenting; reeks of desperation imo
If I’m interested in a job that someone is posting about, I usually just guess their email and then send them an email. Usually the email format is the first.lastname@company.com anyways so it’s not that hard to guess it. Then I’ve circumvented the LinkedIn circus and even if they don’t reply, it’s much easier to follow up! (I only do this if it’s clear the person posting is the recruiter/hiring manager. No point in doing all that to reach out to a mid-level strategist just getting the word out)
I don’t think it’s bad but also don’t think it’s very effective. Tracking down the poster’s email, trying to add them or asking for an intro if you have mutual connections are better approaches
It’s fine if you don’t currently have a job, but if you do, someone you work with WILL see it. It happened to a coworker of mine and they were laid off shortly after

If you’re bashful
Nope. Reply away. Self promoting
I think it depends on what you write. If you can say something quippy and that feels unique and there aren’t already 400 responses.
Even if you don't have a premium membership, you should still proactively reply to posts that mention you and express your honest thoughts.
