Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

If you already have it planned who gives af. Frowning at that is what’s wrong with corporate America.
If you had it planned before the role, be upfront about it. If you are planning on a weeklong trip on really short notice, let your supervisors know. You don’t have to ask for permission, but just have common courtesy.
Life is much easier when you stop giving a f$&@
No
Do you mean a new role as in within the same company but different project/position or new role as in new company? For former, just mention it to new manager before you start to make sure it’s okay. For latter, some companies do have a waiting period on accrual/use of vacation... should also be fine unless they are jerks, but you may need to get more formal approval to go negative on vacation balance or something.
You do understand PTO is part of your compensation? It's yours. And the companies that try to dictate it without justification are literally robbing you of what is yours.
Probably depends on your team lead, but it shouldn’t...I did it
Yes.
Were you up front about it during hiring process? Did you apply for the job or did a recruiter reach out?
As long as it’s conveyed early on to the project leadership, it’s okay IMO.
And there’s a difference between having a vacation planned several months in advance vs. joining a team and THEN planning a week long vacation. The latter scenario isn’t great judgement .
