Is it normal for the bachelorette party to be a surprise? I told my MOH some ideas of what I’d want to do. We had a short conversation about it. I guess I thought it was something I knew about, not a surprise so I’d be giving insight on what happens. So I didn’t get any updates and we talked multiple times since. So in the bridesmaid group chat I asked the group if they’d be interested in a charm bar and spa day. She then texted me separately and asked if she was still planning it?

I’ve ever heard of it being a surprise.. i’m sure some people do that but brides have always been at least semi involved in all the ones i’ve been to

like

If by surprise you mean you don't know everything that is happening, not unusual, but neither is it standard. If by surprise you mean you don't even know the date, they just kidnao you one weekend, the answer is no.

That said, it should not be a surprise for the other attendees. They need to have bought into the cost. If you plan on contributing to cover your expenses let he know that and that you need to know what to pack.

So I plan to have a conversation with her when she’s back in town (in her state) next month.

Just to get SOME clarity. The where is somewhere in my town and the when is during the week of the wedding but no specifics.

I’m not really sweating it because it’s not for like 6 months but I just wanted to see if having a surprise bachelorette was normal or not that’s all.

The only thing I said in the GC was hey I’d like to do a charm bar and spa day. I haven’t spoken with the other bridesmaids separately because MOH and I haven’t talked just yet and don’t want to start their relationship off shady..

I said I think so but I haven’t heard anything about what’s going on. She’s like that’s because it’s supposed to be a surprise. I’m like ooooh had no idea about that custom…

So is this the norm? A surprise bach?

Well I recently told a guy I have been seeing I have HSV-2. We have not yet been physical but it’s been heading that direction. Man I hate this part - waiting to see what his response will be after he researches and talks to his doctor. I’m on daily meds which help reduce transmission risk. You’d think that since HSV-2 affects 20% of Americans and likely a higher % of gay men, there would be less taboo but it’s hardly ever talked about. Anyone else in my shoes? Or had it disclosed to them?

So my fiancé and I are having a microwedding in Rocky Mountain National Park next year, and we’re working with an elopement planner.
She sent over a sample ceremony (intro, sweet poems + passages to be read, and example vows), and we read through it last night. I was reading it out loud while my fiancé made dinner, and it just hit me that this is really happening. I’m just really happy that I found someone who is willing to take a vow to spend his life with me and I’m so excited for that day :)

My partner and I are planning to elope. We want the wedding and the trip that will go with it to be for us. That being said, we want to throw a party of some kind to celebrate with our friends. We're pretty lost as far as the general etiquette around this goes. Do you have to tell venues it's for a "wedding" reception? Is it expected that we will still make a gift registry?

We’re having an Indian wedding on a Sunday with ceremony in the morning, followed by lunch, and then cocktail hour + reception.

Given that the wedding starts early, we will have guests (~30) flying in the day before. What is the expectation in terms of arranging dinner for them? We’re trying to avoid having an additional event Saturday night - any idea on if these guests would need to have food arranged for them by us and what that could look like on a cost effective budget.

My stepmom threw me a very elaborate bridal shower. My stepsister pitched in and also did a lot of work for it. Bridesmaids helped but didn’t do a ton. What, if anything should I do for my stepmom and stepsister as a showing of gratitude? I don’t want to spend a lot of $$ but definitely want to act quickly and thoughtfully.

So, we have a wedding registry and my fiance and I would really like people to stick to gifting us what's on that registry. Yet, people keep asking what they should get us. The thought of dealing with a ton of crap we don't want or need is stressing me out. How can I politely tell people to only buy what's on the registry?
