Is it not normal to ask about equity during the negotiation process? When I asked about it, the recruiter seemed shocked. My last company offered equity, but I was there for 12 years, so I suppose things could have changed over that time. I’m beginning to think that companies are being a little more protective of their equity, but I find having some equity in a company makes me more loyal to an organization, but whatever.

Generally, equity isn’t a part of the process unless under specific circumstances. I see it more in startups, where the salary is lower, if anything. I’d find other items to negotiate on first.

I've never thought about asking for equity. Well, I've never worked for a company that offered equity. But if a company offers equity, I would think asking about it would be pretty normal.

Most places don't offer it in my experience so that is probably why the recruiter acted shocked. However, it is still fair to ask for it. The worst they can say is no.

How do you know if they offer equity? I need to learn more about that piece of it.

like

Most do not offer equity. It is common with Executive-level positions and for startup companies, however.

Just depends on their compensation plan.

Only a huge desire to work there can make you loyal to the organization, and when they see this, they themselves will give you everything you want.

Rough day in the office and in the mood for something that would toss me around and maybe hurt a little. Black peppercorn crusted bacon left on a smoker too long and covered in jam made from under-ripe red fruits. The 59% ABV is definitely present, and you can smell the peat smoke from across the room. The finish lasts for days. If you’re already into peated scotch but want to crank it up another level, the cask strength Laphroaigs can show you your limits. Hurts soooo good 😌

is anyone familiar with pay differentials, negotiating for a temporary raise or some other form of compensation for extra work? 3 coworkers on my team have recently resigned, and certain shifts are being expected to work at half staff until new hires can be brought on. if my workload is being doubled, i expect to be compensated, as they are paying one employee to do the work of two. any suggestions or wording on how to address this?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
