You don’t have to leave agency. Most strat departments are pretty short handed right now. You would take a decent cut in pay as jr strategists make about 15-25% less than jr creatives. Talk to sr strat or head of strat at your agency to see if they have openings and if they do, do they have any education requirements. Some departments require either psych or stats background. Others require zero education. Being in advertising already you should be able to get up the ladder faster. But there’s a shit ton more work that goes into a brief than most creatives think or know. So learn about it before making the leap. Maybe shadow a strategist on a slow day.
I would try to make the transition agency side first to strategy. Then when you have a little experience under your belt it will be easier to speak to how the copywriter experience informed your ability to succeed in strategy. Then leverage strategy & the combined lens from your creative experience to inform the jump to brand
