Is it possible to switch from a Big 4 accounting firm to a law firm within international tax planning? If so, where is the best place to look for opportunities?

I made that jump from EY to big law earlier in my career, at the senior associate level. I know a handful of people who made the jump from EY national to big law at the senior manager level, but they were put into non-equity partner track. I think they're still quite happy with the move, but it's definitely difficult when you're senior enough to be very expensive but not senior enough to be a partner with a large book of business.

I suspect it’s a difference of experience vs book of business issue. I’m at a V5 and never heard of the need for a tax partner to have a book of business. However I have heard concerns that big4 are strong on structuring and compliance and not good with legal documentation /transactional work, which you need in a law firm

Is it possible? Yes.

It is going to be difficult at the SM level to find something that is commensurate with experience. I went through it a few years back and the places that were interested were all for junior level associate roles. Didn’t interest me that much.

I have a return offer from a big 4! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience as an intern and have no complaints. Would love to go back.

However, a bit confused if I should try and recruit with MBB’s or if I should accept the big 4 offer already and take the sign on bonus?

Would it be a blunder to NOT try recruiting with MBB’s ? Besides the monetary aspect, what are the other things I’d have to think about?

Hi Everyone,
I need your views and suggestions. I have two doubts:
1. Is it fair to leave an organisation (big brand) after a year as the environment is real toxic and there’s no career growth as well in terms of good work.
2. If I have to make a switch do I really have to target big brands only or can try for medium and small size companies too.

I was hoping one of these next certs will help me finally break into a security role and love the idea of pentesting but not sure if the CySA+ is more beneficial.

I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.
