Imposter syndrome is baked into the profession—it keeps us insecure, overworking, and under-asking for what we deserve. You don’t grow out of it, you just learn to fake confidence better.

Kind of? As far as practice is concerned, that will fade over the years- 4th year was when I started to kind of feel like I sometimes knew what I was doing. But there are always new and exciting opportunities to feel like a fraud! I’ve been doing a lot of CLE presentations recently and despite having an introduction with the impressive list of accolades and positions, I’m still terrified someone is going to find out that I’m just, well, me.
I need to save this for future reference 😂 I’m now in house counsel and still scared they’re going to find out I have no idea what I’m doing, despite only getting positive feedback

I’ll also add that in my second year of practice, I had a Suits dream, where my managing partner (who I also worked for directly) walked into my office and jovially told me they’d finally caught on to my lack of a law license. We laughed about it a bit, lie I had pulled a great prank, then Dream MP told me to leave. I woke up and actually checked my bar status to make sure I wasn’t crazy.

I’ll let you know if I ever get there.
7 years in, glowing reviews, and still feel this way tbh
You should relish the fact you still feel like an imposter. Be fearful when you no longer feel like an imposter. At that point, something has gone horribly wrong and you’ve bought into the nonsense that is the legal profession.
I felt the same way for about 4 years. I never thought it would go away. Now, when I don't know something, I feel confident that I can learn it and give good legal advice.
