If it doesn't work you will always have in your CV that you worked with Google on a project, many doors will open for you, be sure of that.
Not at all, if you feel that the system is not suitable for a secure future job, do not take that step, first take a good look at the options for success and consider your job security very well.
My 2 cents: This seems very risky with the current state of the economy. Extension after 6 months doesn't seem likely if the expected recession hits. Working for a big brand like Google definitely has its pros, but the type of employment would make me nervous.
*Background/update- in current role for 2.9 yrs with tiny tiny salary raise that’s still under inflation rate, and no clear path for promotion and further raise. Decent global retail client at tiny shop
Considering there is a recession on its way, I would be wary of changing from a permanent role to a freelancing position. Even if it's Google, I don't know if it would be great for you. Think long and hard before jumping into any decisions.
Maybe I'm insane, but I'd do it. After all, having Google on your resume will be huge for you moving forward. Just make sure you're not burning bridges anywhere and you'll be good. Of course, in the end you decide what to do.
Given the looming recession I would say go for stability.
