why there is so much to learn for java developer ? Cracking interview is tough. You need be wellversed with all the things in world database devops java with its n no of versions DSA cloud and list goes on.You are not expected to do a single mistake in interview and after all this struggle you will not be working on greenfield projects.I personally feel its too much to prepare for interviews and many rejections will follow before selection.
Please post your optimistic approach.

Recruiters will almost always (unless you're like a first year) say you should lateral now instead of next year. It's how they make money. It's like the car salesman wanting you to trade in your car a year early.
Yeah this is partially what I was thinking too. Thanks

I wouldn’t really know the answer to your question but just want to say if it is indeed more difficult, that’s dumb af
7th year here. Was told by recruiters that it was much more challenging to lateral as a 7th year, particularly after first quarter. I just went through the process and while I ended up with several offers (including one at my dream firm) it was much harder than I expected because a ton of firms said they couldn't bring on someone more than 6 years out (note that most openings for my practice group specified 4-6 years so I was out of the range). It ended up turning out well for me but I wish I'd realized this during my 6th year.
TTL and ECVC. Explored opps in both
I just lateraled at the beginning of my 6th year (started looking in earnest end of January) and it was no problem. Had multiple offers within a few weeks and it seemed like a pretty advantageous time to apply in terms of what the firms were looking for — most positions I applied directly to were looking for someone with 4-6 years of experience.

Of course it's not a big deal. But while it depends on practice area it definitely starts getting harder to lateral after 5th year, but not you fall off a cliff. Practice area and market conditions matter way more than 6 months of experience. Right time to move is when the right opportunity is there since it likely won't magically appear when you decide you're ready

You definitely should be more discerning about where you apply. In cases where class year isn't ideal for what firm is asking for I'll usually check with the firm that there is flexibility unless I already know it to be so. You don't need your name out there unnecessarily

Window for litigators to lateral is 2-5 years. Some 6 years can move easily. After that it’s a very hard job search
I’ve heard from friends there’s a big difference between 6th and 7th year, but I’ve seen a lot of people leave as 6th years. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, and as others have written it’s clearly in the recruiters interest to get you to leave earlier rather than later
