Is outsourcing a net good or a net bad for accounting? I've heard from people who really enjoy the teams they work with, others absolutely hate it. Where do you fall?

Depends what you're talking about outsourcing. My experience outsourcing tax prep work has been overall extremely positive. We are able to get quality work completed on individual/trust tax returns during the lead up to 3/15, minimize stress on our internal staff, and better meet client expectations for turnaround. It's also cheaper than using internal staff in a lot of cases.

I’m here, too. For repetitive, rote processes, it’s great.

Outside of that, any expectation for your offshore teams to exercise judgement is a massive gamble, and you’re still going to be doing the hard parts yourself plus managing your offshore team on top of it which is a project on top of your engagements in and of itself.

For example, I get emails that merit a “no shit” response and they stop working on stuff overnight pending that answer from me. I don’t understand how anything past blindly rolling PY and grinding returns is so hard.

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.
