It’s certainly not “overhyped”. You’re right in that it can be used to improve legacy systems, but the cost of implementing an RPA solution to tackle existing system problems is far cheaper and much less time consuming than a complete system change/upgrade. There’s also tons of other use cases (PDF automation, invoice processing, web and data scraping, etc.). Many companies are investing heavily due to the time/cost saving potential.
Also RPA is also strategically used as a band width creator so more internal resources can be used to implement the large overarching changes
Overhyped for those who don't know how to implement RPA...
