In general, yes.
Benefits of the Venture X are 2x points on non bonus spend and many of the premium travel benefits with a lower annual fee. But for travel, I continue to use my CSR and book directly with airlines/hotels/rental car bc I avoid the portals whenever possible.
It depends on a few factors:
1. What categories do you put your spend on
2. How do you like to redeem your points
3. What card perks do you value
4. What is your broader credit card portfolio
I like the X for 2x points on everything, lounges (priority pass, plaza premium, and capital one lounges), diversifying my points (eg being able to transfer points to Turkish and getting a 45k flight to Bodrum in biz last summer. Chase and Amex don’t transfer to Turkish).
If all you are looking for is travel bonus outside of credit cards portal, then this isn’t the card for you.
Instead of the Reserve and and $550 fee why not get the Amex Green (also 3x in travel) for $150 and pair it with Amex Gold (4x on dining and supermarkets) for $250
Worth pointing out that the reserve has a $300 annual credit that is basically impossible to not use so it’s really net $250. We use by the time January ends.
I understand the gold has credits as well, but they’re nowhere near as valuable (coming from someone who happily has the card).
I have both cards. For your situation, I would go with the capital one venture X if you will be traveling to airports frequently with a Capital One lounge. I have loved the Capital One lounge compared to a lot of the other lounges I visit. If not, I think the Chase sapphire reserve may be better to pay for your corporate travels and maximizing your points related to that spend. You’ll also want to look at the transfer partners for both cards and factor that in.
