Is there a minimum yearly wage percentage increase that you would expect from your current employer? And if you didn’t receive it, would you then start searching for another job?

My salary didn’t move for 4 years (2022-now) but I did explore other opportunities in the market and I was well adjusted to the market and could not find something that paid as well or more. I’m actively looking now and still struggle to find something competitive. Recruiters have straight up told me I’m priced out of some roles they have.

I have never been somewhere where I didn't get a merit raise for that long. The company I was working for back in 2007-2008 froze pay raises around the time the housing market and economy tanked, but it didn't last for 4 years!

Generally 3%. If you want bigger jumps than that you gotta move companies.

3-5% I believe is fair annual increase depending on performance.
I was promised after 90 day probation, a review with performance compensation which never happened. At 1 year in I asked for review and was not worthy of an adequate increase and was awarded well under 3%. This year I am looking for 5% or will pursue other companies. I feel my performance, time and expertise in my field are worth every bit of that at a minimum.

I would focus less on year to year and more on average over several years. I graduated in 2011 and have 4x my initial salary which I feel is good. But there were years of no to little raises but also years of 12-20% increases. If you beginning to see a trend of no to little raises that is when you should start looking but wouldn’t make a drastic decision over 1-2 years.

I would say NO to that question. If it is in a contract you both signed not just verbal that you were promised a certain percentage per whatever time period than yes. But no employer is to pay more than minimum wage by law.

Typically 2.5-3% is standard for many companies. The smallest merit raise I ever received was around 1.25%, and I started looking shortly after that.

Worst part about being unemployed is the pity face everyone makes when you tell them. If I hear one more "don't worry you'll find something soon" I'm going to scream. Trying to be helpful is one thing but pitying me helps no one and makes me uncomfortable.

I’ve suffered from workaholism for a long time. Thanks to a lot of great self help books and therapy, I’m no longer putting work on a pedestal and I’m spending a lot more time on self care and my marriage. But, unfortunately, I am now getting withdrawals, because my body is used to the daily adrenaline of throwing myself into work. It’s this terrible feeling of like anguish/unease in my gut, but I don’t have anything I’m worried about- it’s like my body wants to find something to worry about.

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.

I interviewed at KPMG on 11/14 and got a verbal offer the next day but since then waiting to hear from them. Been following up continuously but the partners are not replying it seems. In the meanwhile i have an offer from BT offering 90k for 4 yrs of experience which seems to be fair. I am just unsure whether to accept the offer as I was waiting for kpmg reply as I want B4 on my resume which apparently is a big deal. Is BT also good on resume for future employers ??
