GS > Crowe, no contest
I would fish for more accounting advisory opportunities. GS is the better company, sure, but fund accounting can be very pigeonholed. It's not as clear cut as GS >>>
Does Crowe have a Grammar Advisory practice? 😳
I’m gonna go against the popular opinion and say the accounting advisory role has the better exit opportunities. Fund accounting is extremely pigeonhole so unless you are interested in staying in the investment funds industry, you will be learning more valuable skills in Crowe.
agree with EY1. As a Company, Goldman is better. But the role matters. Accounting Advisory has better/more exit opportunities than fund accounting. Not much you can do besides fund accounting at that point if you go down that path.
Go Crowe. As others have said, the GS fund accounting role will severely limit exit opportunities. Accounting advisory, even at a mid-tier firm will offer much better experiences and a wider range of exit opps. While not Big 4, mid-tier firms are still quite respectable.
Exit opps from GS will be more pigeonholed but it’s unlikely mid tier accounting advisory exits will be any different from audit. Even big 4 usually exit to financial reporting or technical accounting so unless that’s your goal I wouldn’t put much weight into those exits
I would pick the accounting advisory due to the potential variety in client work and learning
I am in fund accounting and thoroughly enjoy it. Although your exit opportunities will be limited to other fund roles (as others have mentioned), if you like it this won’t be a problem. Plus it seems as though fund accounting pays higher than other types of accounting (at least in my experience).
I chose FDD at a small firm over MSR associate back office role at JPM
I would go with Goldman. Yeah, you can be pigeonholed, but you can always go back to public accounting (accounting advisory) to pivot.
Location? GS Dallas is desperate for fund accountants
Dallas
Go Crowe! I work in AA at Crowe. Feel free to message me with any questions/ concerns.
i think the correct answer is what you want your career path to be. since youre already asking about exits as an analyst then i would say go GS for the name brand on resume and network there for a pivot after 1-3 years to something you want more. if you’re staying within accounting then crowe to avoid the pigeonhold on fund accounting
