Was in advertising agency for 10 years. Moved to cooperate and never look back.
More personal time. No one call you after work hour. No one email you during vacation.
More freedom in design and idea since no one else in the company know how. You got to manage and present what you believe is right.
More money. Like a lot more money.
Personally, only downside is you only work on one brand. It can be boring sometimes. But since you a lot of personal time, do your own project, do side project. Or just enjoy life.
How did you decide about what brand you want to work in?
Thank you for the very insightful pointers. My concern is that my skillsets & creativity will fade away or run dry being in a in-house that no one else knows about design to challenge your work (a healthy challenge that pushes your work further and better). It's something that we as creatives have hard sweat to build over the years.
The success of working in-house really depends on the team you're working with. I've had really great teams, and really frustrating ones that would end up running me through the ringer because they had no idea how to work with a designer. But if you get a great team, it's fantastic! Or if you're working with people who are willing to learn how to successfully work with a designer.
That's true, feels like both side had to learn a neutral language to comms with both ends. I am also worried that being in-house which means the internal teams may not be open with any creative concepts and only going for the "safe" direction & what was already done before. In a long run detrimental for my own conceptual thinking or skills.
