For real. Esp when the script has been nitpicked word by word by the client for weeeeeeks- they better say every damn word exactly as it’s been written. Not all clients can see past improv when we need approvals on the selects 😭😭😭😭😭

And it doesn’t surprise you how often creatives present ideas without even reading the brief?
Not really.
It does surprise me how little effort account people put into briefs and expect creative to just figure everything out despite misspellings and conflicting direction because nothing was thought through before they rammed it down our throats due to a timing shortage caused by their own procrastination
Although I guess it shouldn’t surprise me anymore.
As someone with experience on both sides of this, I have to say: just because your script went through umpteen rounds of review and approval doesn’t mean it’s going to feel natural to talent AT ALL. Like Harrison Ford said about Star Wars: “George, you can type this shit, but you can’t say it. “ Actors are genuinely trying to give you their best during audition reads, usually with very little direction, and that means some actors choose to stick to the script while some don’t.
Your brain is now leaking out of your nose. Suffer! Suffer!
As the wife of a commercial actor, they often have only hours to respond to self tapes. Cut them some slack, don’t ask for too much in terms of blocking or emotions, and READ YOUR SCRIPTS out loud before sending to a casting director. If you aren’t using a casting director and just blasting to whatever free talent site expecting Oscar worthy talent, you get what you pay for. Asking for camera angles, basically replicating the whole damn spot. We get a good laugh, him being an actor, me being a creative director, at the lengths agencies expect talent to go to for what’s basically a resume.
It’s YOUR job to sell the client on talent by explaining to them how it will translate. Don’t make the actors carry your half baked creative. SNS
