I don't think it was always a waste of time, but I'm wondering if it is now. Or if jobs are really just that competitive. I'm going to keep applying anyway but I'm trying to tap into my network as much as possible.
Job market is quite rough right now. Most postings are getting tons of responses, and many employers are using AI to screen applicants. You should check your resume against the posting to make sure you have the right keywords to get through screening.
LinkedIn is mostly bot postings in my area. But every now and then a real posting shows up.
I’m running into the exact same thing. 20+ legal assistant experience 35+ office experience; 25+ retail/customer service
It’s a slog and the odds are awful but I have gotten interviews (and one offer thus far) solely from applying through LinkedIn job postings. No other connections, no other reach out. So it can be done but obviously way better if you have another in.
Gotten interviews by just applying for job postings.
