Exercise absolutely helps. Creatine also has cognitive benefits.
Welcome to the joys of getting older!!! Exercise definitely helps for me as well. I didn’t exercise for longer than you, but picked it back up a few years ago when I hit 40.
Cholesterol is normal again, cardio is great, resting heart rate is low, sleep is better, stress is improved, etc. I found added side benefits as I find myself eating healthier, and I am much better hydrated (to name a few).
All of this together drastically improved brain fog, and much more. Take care of yourself!
It absolutely does and it was the biggest benefit I saw. I’ve always had trouble sleeping, overall brain fog, and trouble remembering things. After my first busy season exacerbated all of that, I started exercising. I didn’t realize how good the mental effects were. It was like a gray cloud in my brain disappeared. My mind was clear which allowed me to remember more and made me perform better at my job. It also made me feel good overall. I highly recommend you give it a shot!
It took a bit to adjust for me because I went from 0-100 during interim which was bit busier. I would say maybe around the 3 month mark (of going 2-3 times a week to the gym) was when I recall thinking “wow this is what I needed”. Everyone’s experience could be different and you may have that sooner!
My personal experience: I was fortunate enough to have a gym at work. My lunch hour was spent there doing sit ups push ups and weights. It was a great way to clear my head and on many occasions, a solution to a work problem would come to mind. Then I would eat my bagged lunch at my desk while working. This worked for 28+ years. I would also run after work about 3 days a week. Another great stress reliever.
Diet and exercise are panacea
Barbell strength training will fix all your problems. Get your bloodwork done before, and come back in a year to compare.
Pro
I’ve been doing a strength training class. It’s pretty good although expensive. But worth it to get it done quick.
Go to hard core weight lifting classes
You anchored everyone to exercise (which is important), but don't nap on sleep. If you aren't waking up most days without an alarm, you probably aren't getting enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep has similar cognitive effects to being drunk.
Good point. It’s all linked together. If you don’t prioritize sleep it’s difficult to have an exercise routine and you also make worse choices on diet, alcohol, etc.
