It’s been such a relief to have this week off. Was anyone actual productive or was it just my team? I’m seeing so much chatter that I am ignoring lol

I've been incredibly productive with personal stuff. I've gotten a lot of my own life administrative tasks completed. I guess you could say it's both productive and personal, but it certainly makes the rest of my time easier when I have everything ready to go during my work week.

Love to hear that

This week was CRAZY at my company. Not going to lie, I couldn't wait to have a few days off to enjoy with my family. Hope everyone else is enjoying their time off as well.

Mines been business as usual but we’re a CMO so time is money and slots are likited

We do an end of the year shut down so this “week” was only Monday and Tuesday. Most people used PTO for those days so it was pretty dead

We skipped our shutdown too! It used to be at least a week
This year wasn’t even a day

I’m the only member of my team on call and the department delegate

It’s been mostly quiet tho which is nice

Have you ever not eaten for a really long time but just can’t? I’m tired and hungry but there’s some sort of...wall. I can’t get myself to do it. Not anorexic, I’m chubby, but...anxiety.

6’0 and weighed in at 220lbs today. All time high and have gained 20lbs since gyms closed in March. When I did workout it was more or less 100% compound lifts. I’m now limited to a few kettlebells but am not even close to as consistent as I was. Any idea on how I can lose this excess 20lbs? I feel like it crept up over night.

I just learned I was parentified severely, especially emotionally. The discovery came from outside of therapy, but having a place every week to sit down, slow down & reflect def led to it. Being enmeshed with my parents like this was a cause for my anxiety, low self esteem and workaholic, people pleasing tendencies. I'm working on extricating myself and finding my identity again in a way that will be easy on my conscience and values..so I'm learning! Please dont hesitate to go to therapy!...

There is an upcoming appraisal cycle in September, so I wanted to ask how much can I expect Microsoft to adjust the base salary in this appraisal cycle ( given my performance was decent) ?

Additional Posts in Science & Research

Need help settling a debate with my friend. She thinks I will have an easier time getting research grants because I'm male. I think it's the opposite because companies are trying to change the status quo and get more women involved (which I'm not complaining about... please don't attack me.) Which one of us is more right than the other? I'm interested in getting as many viewpoints as possible, whether or not they agree with me or with her. Thanks!!!

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…
