Does anyone here work for Silicon Valley Bank? They recently acquired Boston Private. I’m a candidate for a job at Boston Private. Wondering if SVB is planning layoffs in the near term at BP? Also, does anyone know the anticipated benefits to be rolled out from SVB as the parent company? Specifically interested in health insurance providers. Thanks in advance for any information! I don’t have advice but also have an immigrant parent who is super out of touch and makes me feel super awful about my lay off, so sending some love and can relate. Everyday calling me asking “did you get a job yet?” “ what about this career (examples: teacher, social worker, ie job completely unrelated and would require me to go back to school which I can’t afford simply can’t do right now). And “oh well this guy got laid off and he’s older than you so it’s worse for him”. They simply do not understand what it’s like and how difficult it is.
Sounds soooo familiar
Clearly your parents have no idea what it's like to get a job now. They're probably stuck in their ways and not realising how bad the market is now. Just use their comments as fuel to work hard enough so you don't have to live with them. And filter the rest out. Good luck!
I am sorry. I know it’s hard when you’re employed, but getting out of these demoralizing environment will help you feel better and more confident—which help you land a job.
Try to limit contact with them right now if you continue to live with them. Spend time outside the home at coffee shops, etc, while you apply for jobs.
I know it’s hard when you’re *unemployed*
